Proskauer Sponsors Alternative Credit Investor Conference
TL;DR: Alternative Credit Investor reported that Proskauer is a confirmed sponsor of its first conference, on October 20 at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London. The outlet says allocators, fund man…

Who is Proskauer, and why would it sponsor a private credit event?
Proskauer is a law firm that works on the paperwork side of private credit. Alternative Credit Investor says its private funds group advises sponsors and managers "across every major strategy and the full fund lifecycle," from formation to secondaries, general partner (GP) stakes and fund finance. Anna Maleva-Otto, a Proskauer regulatory partner, is quoted in the same report saying the firm is "thrilled to collaborate" on the event.
A firm like that sponsors a conference because the people in the room hire lawyers.
What does Proskauer's private credit practice actually cover?
The report says the firm's private credit practice draws on its private funds, private credit and structured credit teams, and that together they advise clients across the full range of investment management transactions. Two of those teams have described roles, shown below.
| Team | What the report says it does |
|---|---|
| Private funds | Advises sponsors and managers across every major strategy and the full fund lifecycle, from formation to secondaries, GP stakes and fund finance |
| Structured credit | Supports asset managers and credit platforms through the full lifecycle of collateralised loan obligations (CLOs), collateralised fund obligations and securitisation-based fund finance |
| Private credit practice as a whole | Draws on the private funds, private credit and structured credit teams together. The report doesn't describe the private credit team's role separately |
Read the table as a map of where a lawyer touches a fund. If a fund you're looking at borrows against its own portfolio, a lawyer built that structure, so ask the sponsor how much leverage it uses before you ask about yield. Our private credit prospectus checklist for accredited investors shows which questions to put in writing.
What else is on the conference agenda?
Aztec Group says it is sponsoring the conference too. It describes sessions across "private credit, from established lending models to fast-evolving areas including fund finance and credit secondaries." Aztec also lists dedicated COO/CFO and LP sessions.
Whether an individual investor can attend the LP sessions, the sources don't say.
Why does this matter if you're writing your own checks?
A sponsor list shows where the market's attention is going. Private Wealth Daily reports that direct lenders are shifting origination toward energy, defence and hard assets.
Managers are repositioning while lawyers and administrators line up to serve them, so the plumbing is busy. A busy market tells you nothing about whether the loans get repaid. Verification has to come from the numbers, so start with the default-rate comparison across three indices and the broader market overview.
Common mistakes
The first mistake is treating a big-name sponsor as an endorsement.
Skipping the structure costs more. When a pitch mentions fund finance, CLOs or a credit secondary, ask who holds the senior claim and what happens in a bad year. Our guide to direct lending versus broadly syndicated loans is a good place to start.
A third is relying on repeaters. Several outlets will summarize this story, so go to the origin, which here is Alternative Credit Investor.
FAQ
Who is sponsoring the Alternative Credit Investor conference? Proskauer is confirmed, according to Alternative Credit Investor. Aztec Group says it is sponsoring too. Neither source gives a full sponsor list.
When and where is the conference? It takes place on 20 October at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London, per Alternative Credit Investor and Aztec Group. Aztec describes it as the inaugural edition.
Can individual investors attend? The reports describe attendees as allocators, fund managers and service providers. Neither Alternative Credit Investor nor Aztec says whether individuals can buy tickets.
Does a sponsor's presence say anything about private credit risk? No. It shows who serves the market, not how the loans perform. Look at default data, fees, leverage and liquidity terms.
What to do today
Pick one private credit fund you've been pitched and ask the sponsor two questions in writing: how much does the fund borrow against its portfolio, and under what conditions can you redeem? Vague answers tell you what you need to know about the fund. To get the next private credit story with the downside first, subscribe to the free AIN briefing.
