Tenstorrent's $1.5B Series E Led a Big AI Funding Week
TL;DR: Tenstorrent closed a $1.5 billion Series E at a $6.2 billion post money valuation, according to the company , and it topped Crunchbase News's list of the week's biggest U.S. rounds. Flapping A…

Tenstorrent announced the round on October 19, 2026. The company says the equity raise will fund volume manufacturing and global commercial expansion, as it put it in its newsroom post. TechCrunch reported that the money will go toward chips built for serving open-weight AI models and for video generation.
Who led Tenstorrent's Series E, and who else is in?
Trace Capital and Innovation X led the round, per TechCrunch. Other backers it names include Cadence Ventures, Eclipse, Fidelity and SanDisk.
Tenstorrent's release says Trace Capital was founded in 2026 by Ben Mahdavi, who previously co-founded Quiet Capital. That means a firm with no long record co-led a $1.5 billion round, so there is little history for you to check. Innovation X is older. It was founded in 2016 and reports more than $4.5 billion under management as of December 31, 2025, according to the same company release, citing its Form ADV.
Why does a $6.2 billion valuation matter?
It more than doubles the $2.6 billion Tenstorrent fetched in late 2024, TechCrunch reports. The same story says the round came five months after the company reportedly drew acquisition interest from Intel and Qualcomm at valuations of as much as $5 billion.
TechCrunch also reports that CEO Jim Keller told Bloomberg the company chose to stay independent and raise more capital after its Galaxy servers showed they could run DeepSeek models. That is Keller's account of his own decision. The sources do not say what terms the new investors received.
What else closed this week?
Crunchbase News ranks the week's ten largest announced U.S. rounds. The four biggest, as it reports them:
| Company | Round | Amount | Lead or valuation as reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tenstorrent | Series E | $1.5B | Led by Trace Capital and Innovation X; $6.2B valuation |
| Flapping Airplanes | Series A | $1B | Led by Lux Capital and Index Ventures |
| ASI | Series C | $325M | Led by Spark Capital; $3B valuation |
| Xona | Series D | $250M | Led by Future Ventures; $2.4B valuation |
The week was top-heavy. Two rounds reached $1 billion or more, and the next largest, ASI's $325 million, is less than a quarter of Tenstorrent's. A large share of the week's money landed in just two names. Crunchbase also notes that Flapping Airplanes raised its Series A less than 10 months after a $180 million seed round.
What does this mean for an accredited investor?
Neither the company release nor the news coverage describes any route for individual investors to buy Tenstorrent shares. Institutions priced this round on terms outsiders do not see, so $6.2 billion is a headline figure, not a verdict on what the shares are worth. Access is not an edge. Judgment is.
Exposure sold through an SPV or platform is usually accredited-only, and it puts a fee layer between you and the shares. Before you consider one, ask who holds the underlying shares, what fees sit on top and what the exit terms are. Our Hiive review covers what a pre-IPO marketplace costs. Our piece on why 2026 mega-rounds lock out solo angels explains why rounds like these rarely reach smaller checks.
The larger pattern is that late-stage money is concentrating in a few very large AI rounds, and concentration cuts both ways. Our look at down rounds in 2026 shows what the other side of that market looks like.
Common mistakes when reading a mega-round
The first is treating the post-money valuation as a price you could pay. It is only the figure implied by what institutions paid for new shares, and it says nothing about liquidity, about the preferences attached to those shares, or about what earlier shareholders still hold.
The second is reading a single week as a trend. One list of ten rounds shows where money went in seven days. It does not show whether AI funding is rising or falling.
The third is quoting a figure from a site that rewrote someone else's story. Check it against the company release or the outlet that reported it first, and if you cannot find either, leave the number out.
FAQ
Can an accredited investor buy Tenstorrent shares?
The sources do not describe a way. The company release and the news coverage cover the institutional round only. If a platform or SPV offers exposure, ask who holds the shares, what fees apply and how you exit before you consider it.
Which AI startup has raised $1 billion in funding?
This week, two did. Tenstorrent raised $1.5 billion and Flapping Airplanes raised $1 billion, according to Crunchbase News.
Does this round set a price for Tenstorrent shares on secondary markets?
The sources do not report any secondary-market pricing. A primary round sets terms between the company and its new investors. Treat a secondary quote as a separate price and ask what share class it covers.
Is AI funding going down?
One week cannot answer that, and the sources here do not say. This week's biggest rounds were large. For quarterly data, see our Q1 2026 venture funding analysis.
