How to Buy SpaceX Stock (SPCX) in 2026: Steps and Risks
TL;DR: SpaceX is now a public company, and that changes who can own it. According to The Motley Fool , the IPO completed on June 12, 2026, and it's the largest ever, raising $75 billion, nearly tripl…

What happened with the SpaceX IPO?
SpaceX priced at $135 a share, which The Motley Fool puts at a $1.75 trillion valuation. The stock then popped to about $225 right after the offering and fell below $105 by early August, per the same report.
That's a drop of more than 50% from the post-IPO high. I signed off on more than 1,000 QA jobs on a nuclear submarine, and the habit that came out of it applies to a hot listing as much as to a reactor: verify before you trust, downside first. Price matters more than the ticker.

Look at the two price rows. The same stock traded at roughly $105 and $225 inside two months.
How do you actually buy SPCX?
Open or use a brokerage account, fund it, search for SPCX and place an order. MatchMyBroker reports that SPCX lists on the Nasdaq and trades on most major brokers, with fractional orders starting from $10 on eToro.
If you already hold a brokerage account, you've done the hard part. Confirm the ticker is exactly SPCX, since lookalike symbols are an easy way to buy the wrong thing. Then choose between a market order, which fills at whatever the price is, and a limit order, which only fills at the price you set. On a stock that has moved this far this fast, I'd use the limit order.
Want it in a retirement account? Check that your custodian supports public equities, because a self-directed IRA custodian built for private deals may not. Our look at buying a business with your IRA shows where those accounts get tricky.
Why does a public SpaceX matter if you invest in private markets?
It matters because it tests the idea that access is an edge. For years, getting into SpaceX meant knowing someone. Now anyone with a brokerage login can buy it, and the price has already swung from about $225 to below $105. Access arrived and judgment still decided the outcome.
If you hold SpaceX exposure through a secondary platform or an SPV, you now have a public price to set against what you paid. I'd read your own paperwork on transfer terms before drawing any conclusion from that number. Our pre-IPO investing guide covers how those private routes work.
Is SpaceX worth the price right now?
That depends on what you think the business earns, and the numbers are mixed. ABC Money, which cites The Guardian for the revenue figure, reports Q2 2026 revenue of $7.81 billion, up 92% from $4.1 billion a year earlier, with a net loss of $541 million. The same piece puts the stock at 41 times forward sales.
The cash picture is where I slow down. ABC Money reports first-half 2026 capital expenditure of $28.5 billion and approximately negative $25.0 billion in free cash flow, with most of the spend going to AI infrastructure rather than launch. On the profitable side, The Motley Fool reports that the Starlink segment posted $1.7 billion in operating income in Q2 2026.
I'm not telling you to buy or sell. A company can grow revenue 92% and still be priced for a future you have to believe in. Ask what you lose if the multiple compresses, not just what you gain if growth continues.
Who controls SpaceX after the IPO?
Elon Musk does. MatchMyBroker reports he keeps roughly 82% of the voting power, so public shareholders buy the economics without the control. In private deals you can negotiate governance terms, and here you can't. You get a share price and no seat at the table. We raised the same governance question in our earlier piece on SpaceX and AI infrastructure consolidation.
Common mistakes
The first mistake is buying because of the headline number. A $75 billion raise tells you demand was large in June. It says nothing about what the stock is worth today.
The second is sizing the position as if the price can't fall again. A stock that dropped from about $225 to below $105 can move hard in either direction. Pick an amount you could watch halve without changing your plans.
The third is treating this as a private-markets position. It's a liquid public stock, so the lockup and fee-stack questions mostly don't apply. The volatility and the valuation do.
FAQ
Can a regular person buy SpaceX shares? Yes. SpaceX trades on the Nasdaq under SPCX, and MatchMyBroker reports it's available at most major brokers. You don't need to be accredited to buy it now that it's public.
How can I buy SpaceX stock before it goes IPO? The IPO already happened on June 12, 2026, so that window has closed. Before then, access ran through private secondary platforms. Today you buy the public shares on the exchange.
What if I invest $1,000 in SpaceX? It depends on the fill price. At about $105 a share, $1,000 buys roughly nine and a half shares. At about $225, it buys a little over four. Some brokers offer fractional orders from $10, per MatchMyBroker.
Is SPCX projected to go up? No one knows, and I won't guess. I didn't find a sourced projection I'd trust. What the sources do show is strong revenue growth, a net loss and heavy capital spending.
What to do today
Before you decide anything, read SpaceX's Q2 numbers and write down the most you'd accept seeing cut in half. If that number is zero, the answer for now is to pass. If you'd like the next private-markets story we think matters to accredited investors, subscribe to the free AIN briefing.
