TL;DR: Gallium Defense announced the round during European Defence Week (2–6 November 2026) in Paris, according to the company's announcement distributed through EIN Presswire. Keen Venture Partners and 360 Capital led it. Omnes Capital and Polytechnique Ventures also took part.

For an accredited investor, the useful question is what a seed round at this stage can and cannot tell you. Start with the founders.

    Who is behind Gallium Defense?

Gallium Defense has three co-founders, and all of them come from consulting backgrounds. The National Law Review's copy of the press release says the company was founded in Paris in April 2026 by Eric Fournier (CEO), formerly of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Florian Lemoine (CTO), who previously worked at NATO, BCG and the DGA (France's defense procurement agency), and Robin Mandel (COO), formerly of Thales, BCG and Safran.

That mix of consulting and defense-industry experience helps you read the pitch. It is not a record of shipping hardware, and the sources don't describe one.

What is the GDS-10 supposed to do?

The GDS-10 is an X-band AESA radar (active electronically scanned array) with a software-defined architecture. The company says it is designed to detect Class 1 drones and FPV (first-person-view) drones at 10 kilometers, track multiple targets and plug into existing defense systems, per the same announcement.

Tech.eu adds target specifications of 360-degree horizontal and 90-degree vertical coverage, drone swarm tracking, jamming resistance and all-weather, day-and-night operation. Those are targets, not measured field results.

The pitch rests on cost. Tech.eu quotes Fournier on the question military operators put to the founders: "How do you meet 80 per cent of the need at 20 per cent of the price?" The company's announcement describes a radar built for mass production at a fraction of the cost of existing systems. It prints no price.

Where does the company stand on its timeline?

Gallium Defense is early in its life, and the dates below come from its announcement.

The company is asking buyers to commit to a radar that, by its own account, is still in development.

What does a pre-launch seed round tell an accredited investor?

It tells you who was willing to back the team and at what scale. It tells you very little about whether the radar works or sells.

The announcement reports no revenue, no valuation and no customer commitments, and it describes no way for individuals to invest. Rounds like this are typically placed with funds, which is part of the pattern in why 2026 mega-rounds lock out solo angels. If you want to see what late-stage defense tech looks like once it has proven itself, Shield AI's Series G is the contrast. Common mistakes when reading a defense-tech seed announcement

The first is treating a detection distance as a result. "Designed to detect at 10 kilometers" describes a goal. Ask when it was tested, by whom, and against what.

The second is reading an investor list as validation of the product. A lead investor's name says the fund liked the team and the market, which is a long way from saying the radar passed a trial.

The third is assuming that orders opening means orders arriving. A product with no sales history faces procurement cycles the announcement never discusses.

    What to watch next

Watch first for orders actually opening in the first quarter of 2027, as the company says they will. After that, look for a published price. The strongest signal would be an armed force or infrastructure operator naming itself as a customer or test site, because that turns a claim into evidence.
