TL;DR: Bitcoin has traded between $80,000 and $84,000 for about a week, and its 28-day volatility sits near the lowest level of 2026, according to The Block. The Federal Reserve meets October 28 and the midterm elections follow November 3. K33, the research firm that measured the calm, expects it to end soon.

According to The Block, research firm K33 reported that bitcoin's 28-day volatility fell to 1.2%, with the price spending the past week between $80,000 and $84,000. That raises the obvious question of what ends it. Tech-Insider, summarizing Cryptonews.net, reports that investors are watching the Federal Reserve meeting on October 28 and the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, and DigitalToday also names the Fed meeting as a likely point of volatility.

What does low volatility actually tell you?

It tells you the price has barely moved, and nothing about where it moves next. Realized volatility measures how much an asset actually swung over a past window, so it describes the last four weeks and makes no promise about the next four.

K33's own read is that the calm is temporary. "Expansions typically follow such compressions, and we expect BTC volatility to pick up shortly," K33's Head of Research Vetle Lunde told The Block. That is a forecast that swings will get bigger. It says nothing about whether they go up or down, and you should read it that way.

Underneath the flat price, money has still moved. The Block reports that BlackRock's IBIT fund took in the equivalent of 8,128 BTC on October 19, its largest daily inflow in bitcoin terms since April 2025. A quiet chart can hide heavy buying.

Which dates matter for bitcoin right now?

Two dates carry the story, and both are close.

    DateEventWhy investors are watching
October 28, 2026Federal Reserve meetingNamed by DigitalToday as a likely point of volatility
November 3, 2026U.S. midterm electionsPolicy expectations feed into risk assets

The Fed date comes first. If you hold bitcoin next to other risk assets, the October 28 decision tells you something about rates for all of them, not just crypto. AIN's piece on what a Fed hold means for private credit in H2 2026 covers how the same decision reaches private allocations.

Does bitcoin usually bottom after midterm elections?

It has in each of the last three cycles, according to Yahoo Finance. Yahoo reports that bitcoin bottomed 13 to 71 days after each of the past three midterms.

    November 4, 2014January 14, 201571
    November 6, 2018December 15, 201839
    November 8, 2022November 21, 202213

Three cycles is a small sample, and this cycle already broke the pattern, because Yahoo reports a low of $57,718 on July 1, 125 days before the election. The same article puts bitcoin at roughly $81,234, about 40% above that low.

So there are two readings. Either the usual post-election bottom came early this time, or another drop is still ahead, and three elections of history cannot settle which.

What should an accredited investor take from this?

A sideways market is a good time to check how much bitcoin you hold and why. A flat chart is not evidence that the risk has gone. It only shows that nothing has hit yet, and K33 expects that to change.

We start every deal with the downside, and a liquid holding deserves the same question. If your portfolio already carries illiquid positions you cannot sell in a hurry, such as private funds or venture stakes that stay locked up while mega-rounds crowd out solo angels, then bitcoin may be the one holding you could sell in a bad week, and a large swing in it matters more. If a big move in either direction, whether from a Fed surprise, an election result or something nobody has named yet, would change how you feel about the holding, the size is probably wrong for you. A qualified adviser can answer that better than any headline.

Common mistakes in a range-bound market

Calm gets read as safety more often than anything else. Low volatility describes the past few weeks, and K33 itself expects it to end.

Some investors trade the date instead of the plan. Both the Fed meeting and the election are scheduled, so the market has had time to position, and a headline on October 28 can still move the price against you.

The midterm pattern also gets promoted to a rule. Three data points did not stop this cycle from bottoming 125 days early, and a fourth could break the pattern again.

    FAQ

What is the Bitcoin price prediction for 2026? The reporting offers a range rather than a target: $80,000 to $84,000 over the past week, and K33's view that volatility will pick up.

Will 2026 be a bull run for crypto? The evidence supports both, so it is too early to call.

How much of my net worth should be in bitcoin next to illiquid holdings? No published source gives a correct percentage, and any figure ignores your own situation. Start from the downside: how much would you need to sell, how fast, and what the rest of your portfolio would let you avoid selling.

What could move bitcoin before the midterms? The Fed meeting on October 28 leads the list, according to DigitalToday.

What to do before October 28

Write down, today, what you would do if bitcoin moved 10% either way after the Fed meeting, and what share of your portfolio it represents.
