TL;DR: Zcash ETFs took in $41.1 million in the week of October 19 to 23, their biggest weekly inflow since September, according to BeInCrypto. Bitcoin funds still finished the week $301.2 million positive, but $635.49 million left on October 22 alone. Flows into one fund do not make a trend.

What happened to Zcash and Bitcoin ETFs last week?

Money moved into Zcash while the largest crypto funds had a rough two days.

The Bitcoin side was uneven. Per Business Media's tally of daily flows, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs received $304.73 million over the five sessions. That included the week's largest outflow, $635.49 million on October 22, and another $137.94 million out on October 23. BeInCrypto puts the weekly total at $301.2 million positive, a small gap between the two counts.

The Zcash product in question is the Grayscale Zcash ETF. CryptoTicker notes it trades as ZCSH on NYSE Arca.

Two good days at the start and two bad ones at the end net out positive. The sources give Zcash flows for the week, not by day, so they can't show whether any of the same money moved from one fund to the other.

Does one week of inflows mean Zcash is recovering?

Not yet. September is the reason to hold back. BeInCrypto points out that a $98.2 million inflow week was followed by three weeks of withdrawals, while ZEC retreated from a peak near $1,690.

ZEC rebounded after falling to $1,118 the week before, but, as BeInCrypto puts it, analysts remain divided. Some watch whether it closes above $1,223. Others see a declining price channel. Neither camp has the flow data to settle it.

What does Zcash have to do with a Bitcoin allocation?

Very little in how the coins are built. Zcash is a privacy coin, designed to shield transaction details rather than to cap supply the way Bitcoin does. A fund holding it carries different risks from a Bitcoin fund. One week of money moving between them doesn't make them substitutes.

For an investor who already holds Bitcoin through an ETF, the practical question is concentration. Weekly flow numbers show what other people did last week. They say nothing about whether a position fits your portfolio, how long you could hold through a drawdown like the one from $1,690 to $1,118, or how much you could lose without changing your plans.

This is a public-market story on a site about private markets because the lesson carries over. Access is not an edge. Judgment is, and a fund-flow headline is not judgment. Our piece on hedge fund replication ETFs applies the same fee-and-structure test to another ETF wrapper.

Common mistakes when reading ETF flow headlines

Treating a single week as direction is the easy one. September showed a strong inflow week followed by three weeks of outflows, so one data point can reverse fast.

Fund flows and price are also not the same thing. Money entering a fund doesn't set the coin's price on its own, and the sources here don't establish a causal link either way.

A number that appears on only one site deserves a second look before you repeat it. The Bitcoin weekly total differs slightly between two outlets, which is normal when trackers count differently. Verify before you trust it, and go back to the origin.

    What to watch next

The next weekly ETF flow reports and the Federal Reserve's October 27 to 28 meeting could help determine whether Zcash's recovery continues, according to BeInCrypto's report as syndicated by Yahoo Finance. If the inflow repeats for a second week, the September pattern has been broken. If it reverses, it hasn't.

    FAQ

    Is Zcash better than XRP?

The sources don't rank them. They show last week's flows: Zcash ETFs took in $41.09 million and XRP ETFs $4.25 million, per Business Media. Flows say what buyers did, not which asset will perform better.

Is Zcash going to replace Bitcoin?

Nothing in the sources suggests it. They describe different designs: Zcash is built to shield transaction details, while Bitcoin has a capped supply. Bitcoin funds also finished the week $301.2 million positive, per BeInCrypto, roughly seven times the Zcash inflow.

Why is Zcash dropping so much?

They don't give a single cause. BeInCrypto notes that analysts are divided on what comes next.

How much of my net worth belongs in a volatile coin?

No source we cite gives a correct percentage, and any figure ignores your situation. Start downside first: what you could lose without selling anything else, and how long you could wait out a drop like the one from $1,690 to $1,118.
