Strive Buys 3,311 Bitcoin for $280M: What to Know
TL;DR: Strive told investors on October 13 that it had added 3,311 bitcoin in a single week. According to The Block , the company paid an average of about $84,500 per coin, including fees and expense…

The word "acquisition" in the headlines is a little loose. Strive bought bitcoin. It did not buy a company. The last bigger jump came in January, when Strive took on roughly 5,048 BTC through its all-stock merger with Semler Scientific.
Here is what the numbers say, and what they leave open.
How big is the purchase, and where does Strive rank?
The holdings now stand at 32,773 BTC, up from 29,462 a week earlier, according to CoinMarketCap's summary of the filing. That puts Strive fifth among public company holders, per Bitcoin Treasuries data cited by The Block.
| Public holder | BTC held |
|---|---|
| Strategy | 848,250 |
| Metaplanet | 44,000 |
| Twenty One | 43,514 |
| MARA | 35,577 |
| Strive | 32,773 |

The gap to MARA is now under 3,000 coins. The gap to Strategy is not a race anyone is running.
How did Strive pay for it?
The sources that can be cited here do not break down how this week's purchase was funded. The full split sits in the 8-K itself. What the filing summary does show is the share count. Per CoinMarketCap, Class A common shares outstanding rose to 101,169,907 from 91,708,804 in one week. Existing holders own a smaller slice of a larger bitcoin pile.
Is Strive sitting on a gain or a loss?
The average price of about $84,500 per coin, per The Block, is the line to watch. In any week bitcoin trades below it, the newest coins sit at a loss on paper. The price Strive paid is not a floor.
What is the stated goal, and is it reachable?
CEO Matt Cole has said he wants Strive to end 2026 as the world's second-largest public bitcoin holder, The Block reports. The Block calculates it remains 11,227 BTC ($937.5 million) behind Metaplanet, which means roughly 990 BTC per week if Metaplanet buys nothing more.
This week's 3,311 BTC is well above that weekly figure. Whether Strive can repeat a purchase of that size is the open question, and the next weekly 8-Ks will show it.
Is buying Strive stock the same as owning bitcoin?
No. A shareholder owns a piece of a company that holds bitcoin and also carries a growing share count and other obligations. Someone who wants the asset more directly has another route, and AIN covered it in Morgan Stanley's spot bitcoin ETF filing.
Common mistakes when reading a treasury-company filing
Treating the purchase size as strength is the easy one. A big buy paid for with newly issued shares is a financing story as much as a bitcoin story. The same question applies as in Blackstone's $750 million BCRED notes: what does the structure owe, and to whom?
Coin counts mislead without share counts. Bitcoin per share is what a stockholder actually owns, and it can fall while the headline total rises.
Then there is the assumption that the stock behaves like the asset. A listed company carries costs and obligations that bitcoin itself does not. For a similar lesson in how structure shapes who gets what, read AIN's look at SpaceX's all-stock Cursor deal.

What to do today
Open Strive's latest 8-K on the SEC's EDGAR site and find two numbers: bitcoin held and shares outstanding. Add the Class A and Class B shares together (CoinMarketCap's summary lists 101,169,907 and 9,217,297), then divide bitcoin held by that total. That gives you bitcoin per share. Repeat it next week and see which way it moves, then sign up for the free AIN briefing, which takes apart filings like this one.
